Laura Ponto offers clients a wealth of experience in both the private sector and government. She joined Hogan Lovells after serving as head of public policy and regulatory affairs for Google X’s Project Wing. She is a leader in the unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) industry, providing thoughtful solutions to the unique business, policy, and regulatory challenges presented by rapidly evolving technology in a traditional regulatory framework.
Her experience encompasses virtually all aspects of aviation and a wide range of transportation issues across multiple modes. She began her career in the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Office of General Counsel, and then spent more than a decade in the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Office of Chief Counsel. She advised the White House, U.S. Senate, and House of Representatives on issues related to transportation policy, safety, and security. She also served as counsel to the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation. She is widely recognized as an aviation authority with the influence and credibility necessary to represent clients before regulators and legislators alike.
In addition, Laura has extensive litigation experience. She represented the DOT, FAA, and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in key litigation and enforcement actions. She also served as special assistant U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, Civil Division, and prosecuted federal criminal matters in the Eastern District of Virginia.
