Precision Agriculture & Forestry Overview

The agriculture industry is undergoing a shift from conventional to mechanized farming practices and is moving from traditional farm equipment towards state-of-the-art automated solutions. Rapid technology advances have led to the development of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) with superior imaging capabilities, advanced technologies including GPS and GIS (Geographic Information System) and autopilot systems.

Since drone-supported precision agriculture offers a number of tangible benefits, farmers are increasingly turning to drones as their newest, most efficient tool in agriculture. Thanks to the cost-efficient nature of drone technologies, more and more farmers are making use of drones for various agricultural applications such as soil and field analysis; livestock monitoring; crop scanning, dusting, and spraying; irrigation management, health assessment and aerial planting.

A growing number of farmers is already experiencing that the use of drones can improve the quality of the crop, boost yields and reduce waste of fertilizers and crop protection products. It also reduces costs for farmers and optimizes their return on inputs.

This session will provide you with insights into how farmers are implementing aerial tools and focus on topics such as:

Who is actually using UAS technology: farmers or third parties?
Which drones offer the best features for agricultural use?
How are farmers dealing with lack of technical know-how and limited availability of skilled laborers?
How software analysis can be used to understand plant health and to better plan and maximize land, water and fertilizer usage
Thermal imaging for insight into irrigation
How to efficiently use drones to achieve higher yields by identifying problems before they happen
Using UAS to increase crop health awareness
