William Metz founded Precision Vine in Lausanne, Switzerland in 2016 in order to enable wine growers and makers to use remote-sensing data within their specific management plans. Intrigued early on by the emerging field of precision viticulture, William worked with leading innovators after earning a Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture from California Polytechnic University in San Luis Obispo, California. Continuing his research at Changins in Switzerland, he focused on drone applications in vineyard management while earning a Master of Life Sciences degree. In 2014 he was named laureate and awarded a year’s fellowship from the Villa D’Este Wine Symposium to study drone applications within major wine regions of Switzerland, France and Germany. Precision Vine is an outgrowth of that experience.
