SPIRIT COUNTER-ROTATING ELECTRIC DRONE MOTORS FROM CR FLIGHT

Sacramento based CR Flight specializes in creating highly efficient and powerful counter-rotating (CR) motors for both vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) and horizontal flight drones. CR Flight’s patented and patent pending Spirit CR motors will be available in various thrust sizes (initially, 10, 50, and 100 lbs of lift) or in customer-requested configurations. The targeted markets include high-performance drones utilized in the areas of: forestry and agricultural inspections/sprayings; architectural/construction inspections; mining and aggregate operations; public safety in search and rescue, firefighting, and policing; infrastructural inspections for pipelines, power lines, bridges, roads, and the like; sophisticated photography for surveying and mapping; product delivery; and personal transportation.

Current drone motors have several severe limitations, including: drawing too much electrical power, thereby resulting in restricted flight times; limited thrust when required for necessary lift and emergency operations; and excessive operational temperatures that shorten the life-expectancy of the motors. CR Flight’s Spirit CR motors easily overcome all these limitations.

During operation, any CR motor spins both the armature and the stator (traditionally stationary) in opposite directions. For drones or any propeller utilizing device (fans, pumps, and boat motors), the oppositely rotating propellers are configured to move the surrounding air (or liquid) in the same direction. Since either the armature or stator contains electromagnetic field coils, oppositely spinning armatures or stators require an ingenious electrical power supply assembly to electrify the field coils. CR Flight’s various patent pending high-RPM and high-current slip ring assemblies accomplish this transfer of current with amazing efficiencies.

Various Spirit CR motor configurations have been designed, including: the Spirit CR motor version in which the CR motor is positioned above the slip ring assembly; the Spirit CR motor version in which the CR motor is positioned below the slip ring assembly; and the Spirit CR motor version in which the slip ring assembly is positioned within the CR motor. These all have standard plug-and-play motor mounts for easy attachment to commonly available drones.

Compared to standard equivalent drone motors, CR Flight’s Spirit CR motors: 1) require ~35% less electrical power input; 2) produce up to ~200% more on-demand thrust; and 3) run up to ~50% cooler. These tested facts translate into: 1) significant longer flight times; 2) greater payload capacity; and 3) much longer motor life.

CR Flight’s currently has no direct competitors. Some dual propeller drones do exist; however, those drones utilize either back-to-back separate motors with one propeller on each motor or co-axial versions that employ two separate motors with co-axial shafts having one shaft going to each propeller. CR Flight’s CR motors require only a single motor to drive both propellers, therefore, lighter and more energy efficient.

CR Flight plans to distribute their Spirit CR motors by marketing existing CR motor sizes or customer-requested sizes directly to motor/drone companies and by licensing their CR technologies to suitable entities.

Future projects for CR Flight include expansion into large ventilation fans for buildings, heat exchange fans for AC units, and land/water propulsion systems.
