The Drone Technology program at Palomar College was developed by faculty members and various industry partners. Students in the program can earn a Certificate of Achievement in Drone Operations in one year or the Associate’s Degree in Drone Applications and Technologies in two years. The program introduces students to drone operations, drone safety and legal issues, drone data processing and analytics, as well as drone career pathways in fields such as agriculture, mapping and surveying, and photography. In addition to preparing students for the Federal Aviation Administration’s Remote Pilot Exam, the program also includes a variety of business and entrepreneurship courses, internships, and project-based activities in order to prepare students for the workforce. The college, with generous support from the National Science Foundation (DUE#1700552), also hosts summer camps as well as outreach events to excite high school and college students about drone educational and career pathways.
