This session will delve into the integration of drone technology within public safety operations, highlighting both the strategic formation and practical implementation of these programs. From the challenges of introducing new technology to the steps needed for successful deployment, attendees will gain insights into how drones are transforming public safety efforts. The presentations will explore the creation of specialized teams, the critical components required for effective drone operations, and the real-world applications that demonstrate the impact and success of these initiatives.
sUAS in Public Safety- from Formation to Implementation to Action to Success
After 28 years within the Nebraska State Patrol I can admit that change within Public Safety can be difficult. Especially with the implementation of new and emerging technology. In my presentation I will discuss how we at the Nebraska State Patrol formed our sUAS Team. Next how we implemented our goals in public safety, including success and failures. This will include training, FAA Part 107 certification, flight tracking and policy. Then we will discuss that actions we took in the implementation in Crash Reconstruction, SWAT and Wildfire applications. Finally discuss how to measure the success of a program. By close examination of the impact to the public there are clear measures to take to show success in your program.

The 5A’s of Drone as First Responder and role of Drone Launch Triggers in DFR Operations
The presentation will review the 5 essential elements to standing up a successful public safety Drone as First Responder (DFR) Operation: Aircraft, Aircraft Management, Airspace Awareness, Autonomy Software and Approvals. The Elements are problems that each agency must solve for, and the industry is beginning to realize this and offer turn-key solutions to address each, with the goal to scale this life-saving capability.
