J.D. – University of Miami School of Law (1998) B.A- University of North Carolina (1995) 3 years as UAS Manager with present firm. After practicing law for a number of years in a niche field (immigration law) I looked for a career change. My best friend is the Owner/President of Bullseye Construction, Inc. in Charlotte, NC., a site development contractor. I contacted him and he hired me to initially train as a project manager. Soon after being hired I approached him about implementing and developing a drone program to assist with grading takeoffs and provide data to project foremen throughout the life of the project with respect to earthwork progress and earthwork remaining for each job site. I started the program in March 2020 and we purchased the DJI Phantom 4 RTK and began using a service known as Propeller Aero to process data from each aerial survey. After much research and trial and error I determined that undertaking the photogrammetry aspect would ultimately save the company tens of thousands of dollars per year. I learned the workflow on my own, adopted all new procedures, and purchased the requisite software allowing me to obtain centimeter grade accuracy on each of our sites. Presently, I now perform weekly aerial surveys and do all data analysis and photogrammetry. Additionally, I create both the digital surface models (DSM) and orthomosaics and calculate site volumes and progress. The program has been a success.
