Chris Doherty is a member of the Waiver Team in the Special Programs Section within the FAA’s Flight Standards General Aviation and Commercial Division (AFS-800) where he reviews complex waiver applications, works with industry partners in the BEYOND program and other lines of business to further the integration of UAS in the National Airspace system.
Prior to coming to the waiver team, Mr. Doherty spent 11 years in the North Texas FSDO as an Avionics Inspector, and facilitated training in the FAA’s Advanced Aircraft Accident Courses.
Mr. Doherty served 24 years in the US Navy, 7 years as an Air Traffic Controller, 15 years and almost 5000 hrs as P-3 Flight Engineer and 3 years teaching and developing technical training for the US Navy. During which time he was on the maintenance development team for the F-35 Fighter Program, and helped develop the civilian NCATT Avionics Certification program.
