Darshan Divakaran has background and work experience in flight operations, unmanned aviation, project management, remote-sensing and geospatial analysis. Currently, a full time consultant, he is the UAS Program Engineer with the Division of Aviation under the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT). As the UAS Program Engineer for NCDOT, he has been assigned the responsibility to help build the UAS program for NCDOT and also assist state agencies, local governments, universities & community colleges in building UAS programs into their operations.
Coming from an academic research and state government background, he has experience developing best practices and UAS training workshops for state agencies, local governments, universities, community colleges and private businesses. He also has expertise in developing proposals for aviation research projects. He has hours of flight time with several fixed wing and rotary UAS aircrafts. In, addition, he has also worked with several GIS and photogrammetry systems. With regards to his educational background, he has received a Master of Geospatial Information Science and Technology degree from North Carolina State University and graduated cum laude with a BS in Professional Aeronautics (and minor in Aviation Management) from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. He is also a FAA certified commercial pilot and remote pilot (Part 107).
