I oversee a large highway maintenance area, Pierce and Thurston counties, that includes both urban landscape as well as rural mountainous terrain. Graffiti abatement and sign washing are only a small part of the maintenance I am responsible for, but they are some of my biggest challenges.
I’m a commercial, multi engine, instrument pilot as well as part 107 drone pilot. Prior to coming to WSDOT I owned and operated an aviation based business that included multiple aircraft, pilots, mechanics, and support staff. Because of this history my agency asked me to start a drone program. Our program currently operates a total of 11 aircraft with 16 part 107 pilots. The program provides graffiti abatement, bridge inspections, disaster response, and more.
