Matt Udelhoven is a Lieutenant with the Elgin, Illinois Police Department and is in his 30th year with that agency. Matt is presently the dayshift patrol watch commander as well as the department's Drone Team Leader. The Elgin Drone Program has been in place since 2017 and Matt has been a part of and/or supervised over 250 missions, inclusive of live saving flights, search and rescue, crash/crime scenes, barricaded subjects and more. Matt has given Drone presentations over the years for ILEAS (Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System) annual conference, the Illinois Forest Preserve Police annual conference, 2 FBI breakout sessions regarding drones and in 2023 Matt presented for IRMA (Intergovernmental Risk Management Agency) webinar, along with members of LEDA (Law Enforcement Drone Association). Matt is also the ILEAS Mobile Field Force Team Commander for the Region 3 North area of Chicagoland. Matt holds a bachelor's degree and is a graduate of Northwestern's School of Police Staff and Command # 407. Matt also serves on the Illinois Legislative Committee overseeing proposed changes in drone laws, specifically the Freedom from Drone Surveillance Act. Matt has been flying drones since 2013 and the agency's drone team is considered to be leading the way in the Midwest.
