Lamina Micro Fuel Cell

What is it?

Compact hydrogen fuel cell systems (50 W to 1.5 kW) for portable, mobile, and off-grid power applications. While the fuel cell system introduces a fixed base weight for a given power level, the energy (defining range or runtime) is stored separately in a hydrogen tank. This allows energy capacity to scale far more efficiently than with batteries: extending runtime requires only marginal additional weight, whereas battery systems increase weight proportionally with energy demand.

Designed for maximum freedom of integration. this architecture enables significantly longer operation times and fast refueling, making the systems ideal for weight- and space-constrained platforms such as drones, robotics, and field-deployed equipment.

How is it making an impact?

Fixed-wing UAVs particularly benefit from hydrogen fuel cells due to their efficient, low-power flight over long durations. Unlike multirotor drones, they can fully leverage hydrogen’s superior energy scaling. In long-range inspection missions (e.g. power lines, pipelines), battery systems are limited by proportional weight increases with added energy. Fuel cells, however, extend flight time with only marginal additional weight via hydrogen storage. This enables longer missions, greater area coverage, and fewer interruptions. With fast refueling, operators achieve near-continuous operation, reducing fleet size and overall system complexity compared to battery-based solutions.
