Ben Supko serves as the Associate Administrator for Security and Intelligence at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). In this role, he sets strategic direction for the national security functions, enhances aviation safety, and protects the integrity of the National Airspace System (NAS). He oversees the planning, coordination, and execution of national security policies and six enterprise-wide programs, including national security and enforcement, preparedness and response, infrastructure protection, investigations and professional responsibility, personnel vetting, and security operational services.
Mr. Supko previously served as the Executive Director for the FAA’s Office of Hazardous Materials Safety (AXH). As the Executive Director, Mr. Supko led a geographically dispersed organization with 180 employees and a $36 million operating budget. He navigated a complex, constantly evolving aviation landscape by being innovative, responsive, and data-driven, even with limited resources. Through safety management partnerships, Mr. Supko strengthened the safety culture of aviation entities, government agencies, foreign states, trade associations, and airline passengers. He produced global leaders focused on improving aviation safety by proactively identifying and mitigating safety risks.
Before becoming the Executive Director of AXH, Mr. Supko served as its Deputy Executive Director. In his Deputy role, Mr. Supko enhanced the FAA and industry stakeholders’ ability to identify, analyze, and manage aviation safety risks. He implemented an innovative approach to collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, grounded in trust, accountability, and recognition of AXH’s critical role in aviation safety.
Mr. Supko has over twenty-five years of experience and expertise with the Department of Transportation (DOT). Mr. Supko began his Federal career with DOT’s Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA), where he established multi-modal regulations for the safe and secure transportation of hazardous materials. He also played a key role in developing international safety standards, including the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Technical Instructions and the United Nations Model Regulations.
Mr. Supko holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Energy, Environmental, and Mineral Economics from The Pennsylvania State University and is an active member of the Penn State Alumni Association.
