Drone mapping has higher paying jobs and less competition. Learn how to deliver profitable mapping services from an expert who has completed over 5000 missions with Drone Mapping, Modeling & Survey Bundle from Pilot Institute. Over eight hours of the course will be on demand, with the final module delivered LIVE in the Pilot Hub at Commercial UAV Expo. Learn everything you need to know to create and deliver professional drone maps, models, and surveys to clients.
This workshop teaches the fundamentals of creating controlled map products and 3D models from UAS-mounted camera systems. Participants will learn to successfully design projects in accordance with ASPRS Positional Accuracy Standards, including flight planning, ground control placement, camera calibration, block adjustment, product generation, quality control, and accuracy assessment. These concepts will be taught with a software-agnostic approach that is applicable to any commercially available package. Topics covered in this workshop are representative of those included on the ASPRS Certified Technologist and Certified Mapping Scientist examinations.

This one-of-a-kind training session will provide information that will allow pilots to understand the safety issues and physical challenges presented when flying UAVs at night. This course will ensure a best-practice process to sidestep these challenges, while properly assessing and managing the risks associated with night flight (as waived per Part 107.29). We will discuss acclimating your eye for night flight and discuss the use of lights to illuminate our subjects and how to avoid “light contamination” in our eyes.
After a comprehensive classroom theory session (approximately 2 to 2.5 hours), we will then head out to a pre-agreed upon location for the practical component of this night flight training.

This class is for anyone in the AECS or Public Safety industries. Students bring their own laptops, and we pre-load demo software, software keys, and demo data sets for the student’s access and use in the class. This class covers Pix4DMaticPro, Pix4Dmatic, and Pix4DCatch tools. Students will learn the basics up to exporting Contour/Topographical models/maps. This session will also describe how to best plan/capture for forensic scenes and for speeding ALTA surveys.
This course will include:
• Mission Planning, and Image Capture best practices
• Using Nadir and/or Oblique flight for image capture
• Marking GPS control and manual tie points
• Creating image capture flight plans and multiple capture flight plans
• Working with flight parameters
• Importing Ground Control Points for accuracy and checkpoints
• Pix4D Desktop
• Loading data (photos, .las files)
• Creating a project and a high-precision project
• Splitting and merging projects
• Producing a 3D texture
• Producing a 3D PointCloud
• Uploading to the cloud
Attendees should bring their own PC laptop, as training licenses will be provided. Although any system with 8GB of RAM or more may be used, we highly recommend systems with 32GB of RAM be used.

Drone surveying does not end after flight or photogrammetry! To provide relevant and usable data to engineers, surveyors, and earthworks professionals, the data must be prepared for their CAD and workflows. Learn how to intelligently convert your heavy drone data to a lightweight CAD model that flows naturally into clients’ existing workflows. This workshop will focus on processing real world examples through TerrainCreator and VirtualSurveyor, show you step by step how to create a 3D world, extract relevant information, create final CAD files or reports, and even design machine control files for basic grading. Focus projects include:
• High accuracy photogrammetry and site localization
• ALTA location Surveying
• Topographic site survey integrating point grids, breaklines, and field shots
• Lidar topographic site survey and data quality analysis
• Mine surveying from breaklines
• Mine surveying with Point Grids & breaklines
• Construction site monitoring with cut & fill maps
• Advanced stockpile inventory for complex piles and sites
• Haul road design for mines
• Engineering design and take off calculations

Sundance Media Group, and public safety personnel will demonstrate how to achieve scene capture in the dark, with a drone, capable of 2D and 3D mapping and modelling. These same techniques may be applied to virtually any type of night scene capture. The demonstration will create a crime scene and will fly it with both night-vision and standard RGB cameras to demonstrate the viability of wide-variety of non-specialized cameras in dark crime scene capture environments. Once the data capture has been completed, the SMG team will showcase how quickly the data can be processed for in-the-field insights, and for rapid verification of image capture and area integrity.
