What is it?
The Botlink XRD2 is UAS command and control hardware and software solution, allowing drone control from anywhere in the world via cellular networks. An enabling technology for safe BVLOS flights, the XRD2 uses NDAA-compliant, carrier-approved LTE components for airborne operations.
The Botlink XRD2 system consists of two components — a PC connection application, and a small hardware device that’s connected to the drone autopilot, making integration simple and effective with the ability to read live data, track telemetry, and control multiple UAVs, the XRD2 is ideal for managing large drone fleets.
The XRD2 can handle C2, video streaming, UTM telemetry backhaul, all over commercial LTE networks.
Who is using it?
Drone operators flying BVLOS, drone pilots flying operations in high-risk environments that require redundant communication network, UTM providers that need off-the-shelf connectivity products for network users, government agencies testing LTE’s capabilities for UAS operations, universities testing BVLOS technologies.
How is it making an impact?
The Botlink XRD2 was the only onboard communication device used by iSight Drone Services’ during the landmark 80-mile BVLOS medical delivery in Western North Dakota. As part of UND’s Project RuralReach, the XRD2 provided the mission-critical cellular C2 link necessary to maintain a secure, high-speed data connection over the expansive rural terrain between Williston and Watford City.
The XRD2 handled C2, onboard video encoding and streaming, and Vantis UTM connection – all over a single Verizon connection. During the mission, there were zero C2 drops – the drone maintained connection during the entire operation.
