Jane Cleland-Huang is a Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Notre Dame and Co-Founder of DroneResponse, where she leads the development of software systems that enable intelligent drone operations at scale. She serves as a lead investigator on a NASA University Leadership Initiative project developing an Automated Reputation Model for managing sUAS access into managed airspace, and leads the DroneResponse project, which develops mission planning, monitoring, computer vision, and autonomy pipelines to support coordinated multi-UAV operations under Human-On-The-Loop supervision.
Her work focuses on software and autonomy architectures that enable safe, transparent, and scalable drone operations in complex environments. She collaborates with public safety, government, and industry partners to advance next-generation autonomy while keeping humans firmly in command. She has delivered keynote and invited talks at leading international conferences, government organizations, and industry forums on software engineering for autonomous systems, Human-On-The-Loop operations, and trustworthy software.
